FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center groundbreaking of new
Walton County center on October 27 in DeFuniak Springs
DeFuniak Springs, FL (September 30, 2014)…October 27, 2 to 5 pm, will be an exciting day for the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center (ECCAC) and Walton County. The public is invited to the ground breaking ceremony at 336 College Avenue in DeFuniak Springs which concludes with a BBQ reception.
The groundbreaking will mark the start of a $3 million capital campaign to construct a new 15,000 square foot center to serve Walton County children. Anticipated to open in late 2015, the capital campaign will be off to a good start with the announcement of a generous $1 million contribution by a local family at the event.
Julie Hurst, CEO of ECCAC commented, “We are so excited to be able to expand our Walton County operation with the new center. It never ceases to amaze me that when these children are faced with so many seemingly unsurmountable problems, they come to our safe environment and when they leave, they’re smiling. Kids know they are in a protected and welcome setting. They can depend on our team at the Center being here for them.”
ECCAC’s mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect; protect children in Okaloosa and Walton Counties; and restore the lives and futures of these impacted children. The Center’s existing 13,000 sq. ft. child-friendly facility in Niceville houses a multidisciplinary team of child protection personnel, prosecutors, law enforcement, DCF, therapists, and ECCAC staff and volunteers. The same services will be offered at the new Walton County facility.
With a $1.2 million annual operating budget required, services provided to the children are free. Therefore, ECCAC, a 501-C-3, relies solely on public donations and grants.
